Association Updates

Hi all. Here are a few updates that have occured in the past month. We are still working on some of the issues listed previously, but I will send the information along as soon as progress is made.

1. Snowplowing - After our last meeting our association management company met with the plow company regarding some issues related to snow removal. Hopefully you have all seen a vast improvement in the quality of snow removal. Obviously since it's spring now, we will keep on the company when the winter rolls back around. They agreed to make a concerted effort to get closer to the sides of the road and to plow snow away from hydrants. The major issue of cars on the street still needs to be addressed. The plow company can't do anything if cars are lined up along either side of the road. No cars should be parked on the street when it snows.

2. Water costs - Our water costs are neither the lowest nor the highest in the area. We do however keep all "profits." The money that is left over after all costs goes into an account which will be kept to do any major repairs to the water system. There is a statute that basically says with a water system like we have, we need to have enough money on hand to completely replace the system if something were to happen. When the money reaches this point, the extra will go into our general fund. Hopefully this will help explain where our money goes when we pay for our water and sewer bills.

3. Parking on streets - This one is much tougher to enforce. We do not have the ability to "ticket" or "tow" vehicles left on the street. Please remember however that the side of the street that has the fire hydrants should never be used for parking. These need to be kept clear, as they are fire lanes. This was and continues to be an issue for many people. We are asking all community members to please park opposite the fire hydrants. This will also help with another issue...

4. Obstructed roads - When people park on both sides of the street it makes it nearly impossible for vehicles to get through. This is especially true for school buses and waste removal trucks. Please observe the parking rules and do not park on the fire hydrant sides of the streets.

5. The clubhouse rental policy is being changed. We are looking at reducing our rental fees for community members. We want people to use the clubhouse and hopefully by reducing our rates, more people will get use out of the great clubhouse we have here at Thornton Farms.

6. Road top coatings - This is an ongoing issue. Roads will not be done until all homes and construction have finished in certain areas. When I receive more info, I will pass that along to all of you.

7. Mailboxes - I know this is a touchy issue for many of you. We are basically "handcuffed" by the post office (postmaster.) When they allow mailboxes, Centex will put them up. Hopefully they will begin allowing more now that spring is here. As with the other unresolved issues, I will let you all know when I have more information.

8. Speed regulations - We can't do much about this issue other than to "police ourselves." Please understand that many people have children and pets. When people are driving too fast, it puts everyone in jeopardy. Please obey the speed limits and do not put people in danger by going too fast!
